Features
- Microwave Factory GmbH added support for the Rohde & Schwarz CMX500 to its MATEOS orchestration platform.
- The integration enables automated SAR compliance campaigns for cellular wireless devices.
- SAR testing measures electromagnetic energy dissipation in tissue, expressed in watts per kilogram.
- CMX500 covers LTE and 5G NR radio verification in a single instrument chassis.
- SAR compliance procedures reference the IEEE 1528 and IEC 62209 measurement standards.

Test orchestration software MATEOS now drives the Rohde & Schwarz CMX500 wireless communication tester for automated Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) compliance work, after Microwave Factory GmbH added the integration, according to a Bisinfotech report.
The combination lets a test engineer in a compliance laboratory sequence a full SAR sweep — channel list, base-station emulation, probe step, result logging — through a single template. The CMX500 supplies the cellular reference in place of a separate signaling source, removing hand-built scripts from the radio side of each campaign.
What does SAR measurement actually require?
SAR quantifies the rate at which electromagnetic energy dissipates in tissue, measured in watts per kilogram, when a transmitting device operates near a human body or in a phantom model.
Jurisdictions including the United States, the European Union, and parts of Asia require device makers to certify compliance against published RF exposure limits before any product reaches the consumer market.
Certification rests on documentation as much as on the measurement itself. Every channel, every probe position, and every power setting must reproduce across runs and withstand accreditation audits. The procedures reference IEEE 1528 and IEC 62209 for the measurement method; national regulators set the limits.
A single handset SKU can require dozens of channel-frequency-position combinations across head, torso, and limb phantoms. Each combination runs the device at maximum power through a fixed mechanical sweep, captures field readings from a calibrated probe, and archives the result.
Why does automation matter on this bench?
Manual execution saturates operator time on long campaigns. It also opens audit risk: every setting the operator enters by hand introduces a potential variance source. An orchestration template sequences channel lock, power level, scheduling, and connection state in deterministic order. Audit trails follow from that sequence without further operator input.
What role does CMX500 play?
The CMX500 is Rohde & Schwarz's standalone wireless communication tester, designed for radio verification across LTE and 5G NR in a single chassis. Compliance laboratories already use the unit for radio performance work, so SAR groups often have the instrument on site without additional purchase.
Under the new integration, MATEOS treats the CMX500 as a controllable base station. Channel lock, power level, and connection state flow from the orchestration template rather than from a separate scripting layer.
What does MATEOS already control?
MATEOS is the compliance orchestration product Microwave Factory has shipped for SAR and power-density campaigns. The platform manages probe movement, phantom positioning, and report generation for the test engineer.
CMX500 support extends that orchestration to Rohde & Schwarz's high-volume cellular tester. The radio side of the test sequence now sits inside the same template that drives the probe mechanics.
What does the announcement not specify?
The Bisinfotech report names the integration but does not enumerate which cellular modes, which SAR procedures, or which regional regulatory frameworks the joint workflow covers on the first release. The two companies have not announced licensing terms, regional availability, or listed accredited test partners for early deployment.
The development raises a practical question for accredited laboratories already running either product: whether the integrated stack replaces segmented toolchains in the next accreditation cycle, or whether the toolchain shift forces a parallel SAR campaign rebuild under existing methods.
