Artec 3D has announced Artec Neo, which it positions as the first tolerance-driven wireless 3D scanner. The company specifies metrology-grade accuracy of 0.025 mm and volumetric accuracy of 0.025 mm + 0.035 mm/m, applying that accuracy selectively — where the design demands it — while capturing full-color 3D of the entire part. The tolerance-driven concept targets dimensional control and reverse-engineering workflows in which scan density and accuracy budget follow the CAD tolerances rather than a fixed global setting. As with all vendor figures, the 0.025 mm value is a datasheet claim; the announcement does not state the test conditions or the artifact class used to verify it.
SHINING 3D has added to its professional 3D digitizing and metrology lineup with the FreeScan Combo+, combining untethered wireless operation, updated laser configurations and metrology-grade accuracy. The company frames the releases around large-scale inspection and industrial measurement workflows, where cable-free operation shortens setup time on parts too large for a CMM table.
Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence used the AMB expo in Stuttgart to introduce an updated M&H LS-R-100 wireless machine tool laser scanner. The sensor captures high-density point clouds directly on the machine tool, converting it into an active, closed-loop inspection platform. For shops producing tight-tolerance parts, on-machine scanning collapses the measurement loop: the same axes that cut the part locate the scan, and no queue at a standalone CMM delays corrective action. Hexagon has not yet published point-cloud density or volumetric accuracy figures for the updated unit.
Renishaw reported record revenue for its financial year ended 30 June 2026. Group revenue rose 14% to £815.8 million, with profitability improving significantly. Demand from semiconductor, aerospace and defence customers drove growth across all three of the company's newly defined business segments.
Two acquisition and partnership moves extend metrology into robotics. Cognex has signed a definitive agreement to acquire RealSense, a supplier of depth-sensing cameras and vision technology for robotic perception and Physical AI, diversifying Cognex beyond factory-floor machine vision. Trossen Robotics and Stereolabs are integrating the ZED X Mini and ZED X Nano stereo cameras into Trossen's new Physical AI hardware suite for robot learning and data collection.
In process control, Siemens and Procter & Gamble are scaling an AI-based quality inspection system across P&G's manufacturing operations worldwide. The system inspects product in real time at full line speed and delivers comprehensive inspection coverage — a claim worth separating into its components: line-speed operation is an engineering fact, while "comprehensive coverage" depends on defect class and lighting, details P&G has not disclosed.
XYZO launched an automated hybrid manufacturing platform that unites additive manufacturing, precision machining, finishing, inspection and process control in one connected system for polymer parts. The development follows research into why AM struggles to move from prototyping to repeatable production — the answer being that isolated post-process inspection cannot catch drift inside the build itself.
Hexagon also announced an expanded integration with GelSight, connecting the Absolute Arm, GelSight Mobile Series 2 tactile-imaging sensor and VGMETROLOGY Essential software. The workflow gives manufacturers a single environment to capture, align and analyze dimensional data and high-resolution surface data together — relevant for parts where form tolerance and surface finish must be judged against the same coordinate frame.
DMG MORI introduced its automated probeSET calibration system. Probing accuracy depends on regular calibration to compensate for changes in the probe, tool holder, spindle and environment; as tolerances tighten and automation reduces operator intervention, that calibration cadence itself becomes a metrology problem the new system automates.
Hexagon's State of Manufacturing Report 2026 identifies the gap between how manufacturers describe their connectivity and what happens on the floor: most respondents call themselves connected, yet answers on feedback loops, quality escape rates and lost time suggest otherwise.
Finally, Universal Robots, the Teradyne Robotics company that originated the collaborative robot, introduced its seventh-generation platform, Gen 7, at IMTS 2026 — a unified system upgrade spanning operators, engineers and integrators.
The week's through-line is a procurement question: as scanning, probing and surface inspection migrate onto machine tools and into closed loops, will buyers hold these embedded sensors to the same calibration intervals and traceability requirements they demand from the quality lab?
